Capacity Development Program on DWDM Transmission Network (Phase-01)

1.  Event Title : Capacity Development Program on DWDM Transmission Network (Phase-01)2.  When :      Phase-01 :17 October 2022 to 14 November 2022 (10:30-12:30 [GMT+6])     Phase-02 : December, 2022-January, 2023 (Specific Dates yet to be scheduled)3.  Where :      Phase-01 :Virtual (Using Zoom Platform).     Phase-02 : BdREN Office, Dhaka, Bangladesh.4.   Organizer : Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN)5.   Overview : Telecommunication networks today employ optical technology to transport the enormous amounts of data we consume, often across large/long-haul distances. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), a fiber-optic transmission technique, involves the process of multiplexing many different wavelength signals onto a single fiber. Each fiber has a set of parallel optical channels and each one uses slightly different “light wavelengths”. The fibers employ “light wavelengths” to transmit data parallel-by-bit or serial-by-character. DWDM is a very crucial component of an optical network that will allow the transmission of data: Voice, Video, IP, ATM, and SONET/SDH respectively, over the optical layer.DWDM is used in both terrestrial and subsea networks, and other scenarios, including Data Center to Data Center links. Apart from meeting high-capacity requirements, DWDM also delivers required levels of quality and security. This technology is especially suitable and cost-effective for long distance transmission, i.e., long-haul networking. Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Bangladesh, provides high-speed optical fiber network connectivity to all the Public Universities and a few of the Private Universities spanned across different parts of the country using its own state-of-the-art DWDM Transmission Network. The purpose of this course is to make capacity development of NREN engineers, especially in the Design, Implementation and Operation of DWDM-based Optical Transport Network (OTN). It will use sophisticated DWDM equipment during the Hands-On Lab Activities. The training will be held in blended format to save the cost and to make sure that trainees will get the maximum output from the program. The format will be as follows:·         Virtual Training: to be conducted over Zoom Platform: 8 classes, 2 classes/week, 2 hours/class.·         Physical Training: 4 days (8 hours/day), Mostly hands-on, to be held onsite at Dhaka. The training is planned in a way that contains an online exam [MCQ] at the end of the “Virtual Training” program. Provided the candidate passes that exam, the candidate will be chosen for physical training. The candidate will get the opportunity to attend the exam twice. In case of his/her failure in the exam at the first attempt, he/she can take it for the second time. If the candidate fails to pass the exam in both of his/her attempts, he/she will be disqualified to be considered for physical training. However, due to limited seating capacity in “onsite” training, merit of the candidate might come into play in selecting the candidate. Please check the attached file for more information.

Training on Enabling Sustainable Solutions for Agriculture and Water Resources

1. Event Title : Training on Enabling Sustainable Solutions for Agriculture and Water Resources2. When : October 12 – 15, 20223. Where : School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Sector H-12, Islamabad, Pakistan4. Organizer : Asi@Connect Project: Machine Vision and Intelligent Systems Lab, SEECS, NUST Islamabad, Pakistan and National Agriculture Research Center, Islamabad, Pakistan5. Detailed information :NUST-SEECS is pleased to announce that the training event on Enabling Sustainable Solutions for Agriculture and Water Resources will be held virtually on 12th – 15th October 2021 at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad H-12 campus, Pakistan. This training is designed for engineers, academic researchers and AI practitioners working at universities, especially involved with interdisciplinary research in the application of AI, IoT in developing sustainable solutions for agriculture and water resource management. This event is organized in a hybrid mode (virtual for international participants & on-site for participants from Pakistan). The training content will be focused on the importance of Artificial Intelligence and IoT in agriculture and water resource management for food security. Agriculture in the SAR (South Asian Region) is caught in a low equilibrium trap with low productivity of staples, supply shortfalls, high prices, low returns to farmers and area diversification – all these factors can be a threat to food security. Addressing this issue can have a great impact over the lives of the people in this region. Contributing to sustainable water and agriculture resource management systems can be a challenging task. This training is an initiative towards a major goal of food security in the South Asian Region through stocktaking of research, potential and role of technology, and other interdisciplinary initiatives. This training also includes a hands-on portion on Crop Simulation for Agriculture applications using Unreal Engine. International invited speakers including Prof. Karsten Berns, Dr Jakub Pawlak & Dr Axel Vierling will be delivering talks/tutorials. More details can be seen here http://vision.seecs.edu.pk/esaa/Invited engineers shall be those working currently in each NREN’s partner university or an academic researcher or postgraduate research students in the interdisciplinary domain of AI, IoT & Agriculture and Water Resource Management. The NREN nominees should be familiar with fundamentals of AI & Computer Vision and should have high level knowledge of its application in agriculture and water resource management, with minimum three (3) years of experience in the field. The Workshop will create a chance of better collaboration within Asian Countries.
