2nd APAN-TEIN-Internet2-TransPAC4 perfSONAR workshop

The 2nd perfSONAR workshop was held on the 10 Aug 2015 at the APAN KL meeting. There were over 25 participants from around the region who attended the workshop. The trainers were John Hicks (Internet2), Scott Chevalier (International Networks @ Indiana University/TransPAC4) and Takatoshi Ikeda (KDDI). TEIN*CC played a major role in initiating and coordinating the workshop as in the case of the first perfSONAR workshop. It funded over 14 participants from the region to attend the workshop.
The workshop started with a quick introduction to perfSONAR. This was then followed by more detailed discussion and hands-on. The workshop was engaging as the participants were required to set-up the perfSONAR software on the “small nodes” provided by International Networks at Indiana University. It certainly addresses one of the comments from the 1st perfSONAR workshop. In addition, some of the participants were given the small nodes to take back to deploy in their organisation. One of the immediate goals is to ensure that the dashboard, hosted by APAN-JP/JGN-X, will show the status of all the nodes deployed in the region.
The feedback from the participants has been very positive. They find the workshop to be useful and informative. They plan to use the new found knowledge in their organisation network.
In the closing, it was announced that we might hold the 3rd perfSONAR workshop at the next APAN meeting at Manila, Philippines. This may focus on taking a deep dive into the problems and issues the users encounter in their deployment of perfSONAR nodes. We certainly look forward to the next perfSONAR workshop at Manila. |
