  1. 1. To sort out ways for Bhutan to be successfully connected to the TEIN4 networks by utilizing
         the SASEC Information Highway Infrastructure 

     
  2. 2. To discuss and assist ways for DrukREN to be successfully launched and developed in Bhutan
     

 

The Thimphu Meeting took place from 18 to 20 August 2014 at the Department of Information Technology & Telecom (DITT), Ministry of Information & Communications (MoIC) of Bhutan. The meeting enabled TEIN*CC to share with the Bhutan government officers the benefits and advantages of Bhutan physically connecting to the TEIN. It had an honour to invite key people such as Mr. Dasho Kinley Dorji, Honorable Secretary of the MoIC, Mr. Dasho Pema Thinley, Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and Mr. Phuntsho Tobgay, Director of DITT. Their participants could help bring their close support together to achieve the pending goals. It also provided a very good opportunity to bring technical experts, Mr. Philip Smith, dispatched by the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) from the USA as well as Mr. Patch Lee from the TEIN*CC.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The objectives of the meeting were to create awareness of the TEIN project to the Bhutan government high ranking officers, to share common goals and the benefits of it and to encourage them to speed up their nation’s physical connection through the SASEC Information Highway project. It also focused on how to establish and develop Bhutan’s NREN, namely DrukREN, efficiently and effectively with great assistance from NSRC, DIT and RUB.
