   Detailed information about the event

We are pleased to announce that the Software Defined Optical Networks (SDON) training event will be held virtually on 25th – 28 th October 2021 at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad H-12 campus, Pakistan. This training is designed for engineers, academic researchers and system staffs working at universities, academic networks and R&E networks especially involved with optical transmission network design & planning, network monitoring & management. This event is organized in a hybrid mode (virtual for international participants & on-site for participants from Pakistan).

The training content will be focused on the notion and importance of open networking principles and practices. After a primer on software defined networking (SDN) and optical networking/communication, we will delve into advanced concepts like open optical networks. The training will also cover a module on core optical network planning and short presentations on latest research trends in this domain. This training also includes a hands on portion on SDN emulators like Mininet and SDN controllers like POX and ONOS. International invited speakers including Prof. Vittorio Curri, Prof. Luca Poti & Prof. Fillipo Cugini will be delivering talks/tutorials on topics related to open optical networking.

Invited engineers shall be those working currently in each NREN’s NOC or an academic researcher or postgraduate research student. The NREN nominees should be familiar with fundamentals of optical communications/networks and should have high level knowledge of his/her own network, with minimum three (3) years of experience in the field.

The Workshop will create a chance of better collaboration within Asian Countries.
